Prayers for Malawi after Cyclone Freddy

By Hashim Msusa

We express our deepest sympathies to the Malawian government, Cyclone Freddy victims, and all citizens and residents of our nation in the wake of the catastrophic cyclone as Muslims around the world observe the Holy month of Ramadan. Our hearts go out to the relatives of those who have lost loved ones, as well as to the hurt and displaced people, as well as to those who have been injured.

Muslims hold the view that Allah (God) is the origin of all consolation and comfort. We pray for the injured and displaced people to find peace in His healing and care, as well as for the families of the victims to find solace in His love and kindness.

We are now in the  holy and blessed month of Ramadan, which is a time for introspection, prayer, and compassion. We will be pleading with Allah during this month to keep Malawi and her people safe from calamities, illnesses, and hunger. We ask God to keep Malawi a peaceful country where everyone can live in harmony and prosperity.

Natural calamities are viewed as a test from Allah in the Islamic tradition. They serve as a constant reminder that He is in charge and that we must look to Him for support and direction. We hold that Allah is forgiving and that He is ever present to provide us consolation and assistance when we are going through difficult circumstances.

The people of Malawi have responded to this tragedy with incredible fortitude and determination. They have gathered to help one another and to offer food, shelter, and aid to those who have been harmed by the cyclone. We beseech Allah to honour their selfless activities and to favor their attempts to support one another.

In this Holy Month of Ramadan, we implore all Muslims in Malawi and all across the world to remember the people of Malawi and its victims in their prayers and supplications. We pray to Allah to keep them safe, to mend their wounds, and to give them the fortitude and strength to start over.

We are expected to aid people in need as Muslims and to practice charity. In the wake of Cyclone Freddy, we implore all Muslims in Malawi and throughout the world to give generously to relief groups that are attempting to assist the people of Malawi. The journey to bail out victims of Cyclone Freddy in Malawi is not short and hence we urge relief agencies not to disappear unceremoniously.

Conclusively, we extend our sincere sympathy and implore Allah to lessen our pain and grant Malawi peace, prosperity, and pleasure. We ask Allah to accept our requests for His mercy and protection for the people of Malawi as we observe this month of many blessings.

May Allah shield Malawi from calamities and lead it to tranquility, success, and happiness. Let us always remain patient knowing that Allah says in the Noble Qur’an, “ And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits but give good tidings to the patient” (2:155).
