When we say “As-Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah” at the end of the prayer, to whom are we saying that?
Question
The Tasleem or Salaam at the end of the prayer is a pillar and essential part of prayer, and one cannot end the prayer or exit from the prayer without saying it. When saying the Salaam at the end of the prayer, the worshipper intends three things: (1) To exit the prayer. (2) To send Salaam upon the recording angels. (3) To send Salaam upon his fellow worshipper. If one is praying alone, then he intends when saying Salaam to exit the prayer and send Salaam uponthe recording angels.
