The status Malawi self proclaim as God fearing nation gives the nation sense of pride, impetus on spiritual life, more so a drive in rejecting and denouncing wrongdoing, such wrong as the attempt to legalize abortion and homosexuality.
Honestly, we are nervous by mere mention of homosexuality and abortion as it does not deserve publicity. The mention is only made to counter efforts of some quarters desiring to make the two look appealing and normal to humanity.
Such been the case why countering yet this is a choice for certain category of people? Are they not free to walk their choice? According to Islam, enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil is one of the most important duties of mankind. Who doesn’t know that homosexuality and abortion are evil practice. They may walk their choice God forbid, but forbidding evil is fundamental.
Harmoniously, request and appeal goes to the people of this nation to strongly reject homosexuality and abortion legalization. God Almighty says in the Noble Qur’an, “Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good and forbidding evil.” (3:194) In all measures, homosexuality and abortion is an act of evil. Malawi should rise to forbid evil.
As a nation we should quickly respond to the above Qur’anic verse in rising to forbid evil. However demanders of such unusual tradition may wonder why? The quick answer is to avoid the curse (the wrath) of our Lord Almighty. God Almighty says, “Those among the children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of Dawood ( David) and Issa (Jesus). That is because they used not to forbid one another from evil doing.” (5:78)
Humanity own reference pages to learn what happened to the people who disobeyed God Almighty on homosexuality. This column cannot preach on it. It is a well known devastating reality like the world has never seen that happened to evildoers. As regard to abortion, the right to life is God-given.
There are arguments and counter arguments on legalising abortion and homosexuality. We have heard and read others saying, issues of “Human Rights” should be given free choice and should not be questioned. We have also heard of the same on abortion. It is argued that none should stop the other. However, here is a purported human right that God categorically labelled it as act of wrongdoers.
Admittedly, we are today citizens of Malawi, whether writers, lawyers, traditional leaders, women activists because life was preserved for us when our mothers conceived us. Let generations see the world. Allah Almighty says in the Noble Qur’an, “Do not slay your children for fear of poverty. We shall provide for them and for you (17:31)
The stand of Islam is that every conception is legitimate and every pregnancy is desired and wanted. In Islam there is no such thing as an ‘unwanted pregnancy’. As a nation let us be pro-life and stop killing innocent unborn babies. Malawi should stand to denounce evil.
