Responding to the Adhan is highly recommended. Some Scholars consider it obligatory (Wajib), while others regard it as a strongly emphasized Sunnah (Sunnah Muakkadah). In either case, a Muslim should strive to listen attentively and repeat the words of the caller as taught by the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam).
