Women’s refusal to allow their husbands to marry a second wife may be second nature to them, but Muslim men’s desire to marry a second wife remains intact. Is it legal for a wife to seek divorce in order for her husband to marry a second woman?
Question
A woman does not have the authority to divorce (Talaaq) her husband; instead, it is up to the man to do so. It does not count as a divorce if a woman divorces her spouse. Because issuing a divorce is against Shariah, she should ask Allah’s pardon and repent to Him. Our advice to a lady whose husband takes a second wife is to wait, seek Allah’s reward, and accept what Allah has decided for her. No one is sure where the goodness is hidden.
