In the Quran, why wealth always mentioned before children, despite children being worth more to a father than his wealth? And what is the wisdom behind this?

Because wealth helps one to fulfil unlawful desires, the temptations of wealth are greater. The opposite is the case with children. Although a person may be tried in regard to them, and disobey Allah because of them, but the temptation from wealth are more and worse. Allah Almighty says: “And it is not your wealth, nor your children that brings you nearer to Us (i.e. pleases Allah) …” [38:27].
